Canon-McMillan High School has received recognition on the AP School Honor Roll, a testament to the school's commitment to academic excellence and college readiness. This accolade is annually awarded to schools that excel in their Advanced Placement (AP) programs, delivering exceptional results for students while ensuring wider access to advanced education opportunities.

The AP School Honor Roll compromises four distinct levels of recognition: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

To earn a place of the AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet the following criteria for their students in the most recent graduating class, rooted in well-established, research-based connections between AP participation and college success:

  1. College Culture: Over 40% of the graduating class must have taken at least one AP Exam during their high school years.
  2. College Credit: At least 25% of the graduating class must have achieved a score of three or higher on at least one AP Exam.
  3. College Optimization: A minimum of 2% of the graduating class must have taken five or more AP Exams throughout high school. Crucially, one of these exams must have been completed in 9th or 10th grade, ensuring that students distribute their AP experiences across multiple grades, thus avoiding academic pressure in any single year.

This remarkable achievement underscores our dedication to fostering a college-going culture, extending opportunities for students to earn college credit, while enhancing overall college readiness. We are honored to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll and remain committed to our mission of providing a high-quality education that prepares students for a successful future.

The school's achievements extend further with a notable No. 196 in Pennsylvania and an outstanding No. 42 in the Pittsburgh, PA Metro Area High Schools.

This recognition is a result of a comprehensive evaluation methodology that assesses six essential indicators of school quality, including college readiness, curriculum breadth, state proficiency test scores, performance in reading, math, and science, underserved student performance, and graduation rates.

We take immense pride in our students, dedicated staff, and all stakeholders who have contributed to this achievement. We remain committed to our journey of continuous improvement as we strive to climb the rankings, one day at a time.
